Stage 5: the Belgians dominate the Challenge

All good things must come to an end. Sudety MTB Challenge is no exception in this matter. Finishers t-shirts are given away, riders are smiling, decoration is done, but there is still the "very last stage" ahead of us (the party!).

The route around Karpacz was indeed "THE BEST". It was hard, really hard. Riders are going to remember it for a long time. To picture the toughness of the day we could only say, that a lot of mid-packers spent as much time on the track as yesterday, during almost two times longer stage!

What did riders have in the menu today? Downhill to Borowice, Droga Chomontowa uphill followed by the yellow trail rockgadren or the well known hairpin section were only a few highlights of the last stage. And all that after five exhausting days of racing! We salute all the Finishers of this year's Challenge. Job well done, people!

The last stage in the Solo classification was won by Steffen Langer (Mad East Challenge), who was followed by the GC winner Robby de Bock (KMC Team) and Dariusz Poroś (MTB Votum Orbea Team Wrocław). The German was absolutely on fire! Who knows how would the race develop, if it wasn't for that crazy, rainy 3rd stage, where Langer and Poroś suffered significant time losses. Yet, these are the mountain biking rules. Although after 3 days it seemed like nothing can take the win away from Poroś (eventually second in the GC), it was the Belgian who can celebrate the final triumph. Third spot in the general classification goes to the composed Dane – Thomas Rasmussen (Team Merida Astral Biking).

Women category was dominated by Aneta Imielska, although today her winning streak was broken by the runner-up Marta Gogolewska (Merx Team Wągrowiec). Third place (in GC as well as in the final stage) for Martine Chartier (PENTHIEVRE VELO TEAM).

The team classification was also won by the Belgians, so it's no exaggeration to say, that the riders from Eddy Merckx's country dominated the 12th edition of Sudety MTB Challenge. Today they finished as the second squad, as they were outridden by the Danes from Team Sponz / RMK MTB. Second spot in the GC for Polish Colex Racing Team, third for another Danish team - Proghorn Racing. In the most fierce competition in Masters 100 category eventual win for the Czechs from Rallye Sudety Team, who left their archrvials from Nutrixxion Flachau 7 minutes behind.

Big, big congratulations to all the competitors, and especially to the Finishers of Sudety MTB Challenge 2016. A 13th edition for us next year. We don't know if it's going to be lucky, but definitely will do everything to make it special. See you in 2017!
